Authorities in Morobo County, Central Equatoria State has confirmed that a civil engineer, was yesterday killed in a deadly ambush along the Kaya Road.
According to the statement issued by the Morobo County press unit, the engineer was travelling with a fellow engineer approximately 8:00 AM when their vehicle was attacked by unknown gunmen.
The statement underscored those who were attacked were undertaking construction work at the new St. Charles Lwanga School.
The statement also emphasized the ambush, which occurred in a volatile stretch of the Morobo region, also involved two motorcycle riders believed to be accompanying the engineers highlighting that their whereabouts remained unknown.
According to the statement, government troops responded to the incident and managed to recover the body of the engineer killed.
The statement also noted the Don Bosco Catholic Diocese has not yet issued a formal statement but sources within the Church described the attack as “a tragic loss and a blow to the educational mission in the region.”
It further noted Charles Data Bullen, the commissioner of Morobo county issued a statement condemning the brutal act on civilians who had been top targets of the gun men.
It also underlined that authorities urged travellers to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity along key transit routes.
