Warrap Governor takes Peace, State of Emergency messages to Tonj East

Warrap State governor, Amb. Bol Wek Agoth, is touring Tonj East County to enforce state of emergency and promote peace Warrap State Press Unit

Warrap State Governor Amb. Bol Wek Agoth  has arrived in Tonj East to oversee the enforcement of a newly declared state of emergency and facilitate peace efforts among conflicting communities.

Upon arrival on July 30th, 2025, which also marked the commemoration of martyrs’ day, governor Bol, toured through Palal and Wunyiik where he addressed displaced families and local residents, asserting that the emergency directive aims to halt violence, not suppress communities.

“The State of Emergency must be understood as a tool for peace, not punishment,” he said. “Our mission is to bring an end to the bloodshed and open a new chapter for Greater Tonj.”

The governor also praised the Luackoth community for their sustained neutrality and provision of refuge for the growing number of internally displaced persons fleeing intercommunal violence in their areas.

“Your hospitality has given hope to our people,” governor Agoth noted, pledging financial support and help in mobilizing humanitarian assistance to meet urgent needs in Ngapagok.

The governor’s peace entourages seen as a much-needed intervention to stabilize Warrap State where recent clashes have claimed dozens of lives and displaced thousands. The state of emergency grants security forces broader powers to respond to outbreaks of violence and prevent further escalation.

Accompanied on this peace mission by senior officials including Gen. Garang Mabil, Speaker Rt. Hon. Kuec Deng Mayar, as well as state advisors, ministers, lawmakers, and heads of key security institutions.

The delegation is expected to hold continued consultative meetings with community leaders and youth groups over the coming days, focusing on reconciliation, accountability, and inclusive peacebuilding.
