Abyei strengthens local response to fight GBV

The Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare in the Abyei Special Administrative Area has concluded  a week-long training program focused on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Case Management.

The training was designed to not only enhance knowledge and skills but also empower citizens  Abyei to effectively address and manage cases of gender-based violence, a critical issue that affects the well-being of individuals and the fabric of the community

Aluel Minyeil Rou, Minister of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare, commended participants for their commitment during the training and emphasized the importance of applying the knowledge gained to combat GBV across communities.

“As we move forward, let us carry the knowledge and insights gained from this program into our everyday lives, fostering a culture of respect, understanding, and support for one another in our community,” she said.

She highlighted the role of collaboration and community engagement in addressing GBV, and urged participants to become advocates for change in their respective fields. She also expressed gratitude to the Africa Christian Ecumenical Alliance (ACEA) for its support in organizing the training and providing essential learning materials.

“I would like to express my profound gratitude to the Africa Christian Ecumenical Alliance (ACEA). Their unwavering support has been instrumental in making this training possible,” she noted.

The intensive training brought together various stakeholders working in GBV prevention and response, equipping them with the tools necessary to manage GBV cases ethically and effectively. Topics covered included survivor-centered approaches, psychosocial support, referral pathways, and documentation.

The Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare reiterated its commitment to sustaining the momentum gained and advancing efforts to eliminate GBV across the Abyei Area. The collective efforts by facilitators, participants, and organizing bodies reflect a unified stance toward creating a safer, more inclusive society free from gender-based violence.
