The tension in Kajo-Keji is high since UPDF has continued to disturb citizens living there for decades. It is not yet understandable what exactly the Ugandan army wants from South Sudan citizens’ land, it is unclear because the Ugandan authorities should stand for the truth and also stop threatening civilians with firearms or shooting at them, they should have sound mine that most Ugandans are here working in South Sudan not because the country lacks experts it’s just that the government is setting up the system. Imagine pointing civilian with guns and even beating them up is something else, it shows the weakness of South Sudan authorities such as the governor, MPs, the local authorities who are to oversee citizens issues and the national government at large.
In May 2022, Foreign’s government forces entered the border and started killing SSPDF in Magwi county, Eastern Equatoria state of South Sudan bordering Uganda. It was a serious matter in which the Ugandan People’s Defense Forces crossed to South Sudan Border and shot one SSPDF soldier and two others injured when the two sides (forces) clashed, this Ugandan Army entered into Owinykibul in Magwi where the attack happens within the SSPDF territory at the checkpoint called Chuki (Waligo) just like Ngomoromo.
The Ugandan government should speak out if there is a hidden agenda that is politically oriented with the government of South Sudan it should be done amicably but not by threatening civilians with a gun against their rights. This is not the first time they are attacking South Sudan border and the people; it is like every year Ugandan army feels happy when doing that to South Sudanese. I urge the government of South Sudan to speak and ensure safety of its citizens.
The issue is supposed to be handled at the national level since the county(s) and the State(s) are is/giving the information to the national government to take charge of the issue at the national border between the neighboring countries before invasion. And to add on there are clear demarcations on the Border.
How comes the UPDF keeps attacking all the times and the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces SSPDF is keeping quiet if there is no political deal? What is the work of the army in South Sudan in terms of defending its territorial integrity?
The national government should ensure strong security to maintain its borders and create good relationships with the neighboring countries to reduce the issues of land grabbing. I appeal to the Ugandan government to withdraw its forces from the SSPDF territories and stop disturbing farmers.
I urged the Ugandan Government to learn how to solve issues amicably rather than threatening farmers across the border, South Sudanese authorities to protect their people including properties such as farmlands.
God Protect South Sudan.
