The Authorities at Aweil municipal council in Northern Bahr El Gazal state has detained four men allegedly accused of fighting a Criminal Investigation officer at the auction as they disagreed over lack of a document which was demanded to be produced at an auction as they were selling their cattle.
The brawl occurred the previous week in Aweil Town when the fight started off between a man identified as Aken and a CID officer who demanded for a permit which was required by the authorities to ensure cows were sold with documents to minimize theft.
Joseph Yaach Deng, the Aweil Town council Mayor emphasized the skirmish caused the man identified as Aken to box an officer which sparked the problem.
“The CID officer was boxed by the man and the problem escalated into a big problem which caused tension among the cattle traders and the police stationed at the auction area” said Yaac.
“The police officers were sent to the auction and we apprehended four of them and others are still at large” he underlined.
“We need people to have proper documentation for the cattle that they are selling as some people sell cattle which they steal from other neighboring communities so we are trying to preempt such acts” he stated.
Deng highlighted the suspects who fought the CID officer at the auction were traders who buy’s and sells the cattle in several markets during market days.
He also added that the traders sometime transport the cattle up to Juba, hence they were demanded by the authorities produce authenticated and approved document by renowned chiefs in the community in order to proceed with the business.
He advised people to abide with the rules of law and avoid fighting the police which could result in high charges or verdicts as these men would be charged in court.
