The South Sudan National Minister of Health, Sarah Cleto Rial has reaffirmed commitment to ensure necessary capacity building for health workers in the country.
While addressing Journalists on Tuesday, the Minister reaffirmed government commitment to equipping the healthcare workers with breastfeeding counselling skills.
She revealed step to promote hospital and community linkages that support pregnant and Break Feeding mothers.
Minister Cleto emphasized Prioritizing breastfeeding is not only the responsibility of the mothers stating it required the active commitment and the support of all families, health workers, communities, employers, and policy makers.
She stated that over the last decade, South Sudan has made commendable strides in child nutrition highlighting the rate of exclusive breastfeeding for infants under 6 months rose from 45% in 2010 to 73% in 2024.
Cleto underscored prioritizing breastfeeding, Create Sustainable Support Systems, and also calls for the full engagement of government, communities, and all sectors of society to ensure every child in South Sudan receives the best start of life.
