At least two people had been reportedly killed in an ambush by unknown gunmen along Ayueldit-route to Duk Padiet on Tuesday.
According to a report, the deceased were from the fishing site to Duk Padiet where the incident occurred.
Speaking to No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, Duk County Commissioner, John Chatim noted no clear information on the people behind the attack but emphasized necessary investigations were being made toward the incident.
“What happened yesterday is that two young men were killed yesterday evening and nobody knows who killed them. They were killed between Ayueldit and Padiet.’’ he stressed.
Chatim underscored the security situation was relatively calm across the county following the incident.
“We are here doing investigations now to establish where the attackers come from. It’s not known where the attackers come from.’’ Chatim said.
He further added that Jonglei State in collaboration with Duk County leadership was strategizing to deploy security forces at the disputed fishing sites between Duk and Twic East Counties to deter violence among the Youth.
“The only solution I see about the series of revenge killing among the communities is when the government could deploy enough forces to guard fishing activities at the most disputed fishing sites. This is the best the government can do.’’ He underlined.
In the recent weeks, the renewed clashes were reported between Hol and Ayuel in Akuoc fishing in Duk and twic East Counties respectively. Several casualties were reported.
