Jonglei governor meets partners to expedite relief assistance to vulnerable communities

Governor Riek Gai Kok met with UNOCHA and other aid agencies to discuss collaboration in delivering food aid to communities either displaced by conflict or affected by floods |JSGPU

The governor of Jonglei State Dr. Riek Gai Kok met with United Nations office for coordination of humanitarian affairs OCHA and other Partners to expedite help to the vulnerable communities.

The stakeholders conveyed on Wednesday in Juba to discuss areas of partnership to boost relief assistance to vulnerable communities across the State.

The meeting was attended by UNOCHA, Finn Church Aid and other NGOs in the Country.

Speaking during the extra-ordinary meeting with the Partners, Governor Dr. Riek appealed to the Humanitarian Organisations to increase humanitarian access and food delivery for the vulnerable people in Jonglei State.

‘’ Jonglei State has been facing many catastrophes such as flooding and this has posed a looming hunger to the people, we need the partners to help our people in the hard-to-reach areas with relief assistance.’’ Kok said.

Kok emphasized the need for equitable distribution of Aid food assistance in the most of hard- to reach vulnerable communities in the State.

Governor Kok reiterated his administration’s commitment to facilitating humanitarian access and removing logistical barriers especially to hard-to-reach areas, particularly communities affected by flooding and displacement.

While speaking to during the Meeting, David Carden the head of UNOCHA in South Sudan emphasized the importance of collaboration between the humanitarian actors and the state government.

‘’ We will make our position to be clear, food must reach the people who need it the most, I appeal to our partners to ensure that the aid distribution is equitable and inclusive.’’ He said.

Mr. Carden appealed to the Humanitarian Partners across the State to ensure relief assistance in the most flood affected communities in the state.

–‘’Our partners are essential to this mission; with the support of the government, we can strengthen our collaboration and ensure continued delivery of food.’’ Carden said.

He also commended the administration of the governor for prioritizing humanitarian needs given the numerous challenges the state faces which require urgent interventions.

In the recent years, Pangak, twic East and Duk counties are among the most flood affected counties across Jonglei state. Residents in those affected counties are experiencing subsequent poverty.
