The Juba Electricity Distribution Company (JEDCO) has launched an independent investigation into an incident in which two of its technicians were electrocuted while on duty on Friday, August 29, 2025.

According to a company statement released on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, the company confirmed that both technicians were promptly hospitalized following the incident. One, who suffered minor injuries, was discharged on Sunday, August 31. The second remains under close medical supervision, though his condition is stable and not considered life-threatening.

“To establish whether all operational and safety procedures were fully observed during the incident, an independent committee comprising representatives from both management and the technical team have been formed,” JEDCO said in Tuesday’s statement.

In its statement, JEDCO expressed deep sympathy for the affected technicians and their loved ones, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues and their families during this difficult time.”

“We thank the Lord that the second technician’s condition is not life-threatening, and although he continues to experience pain, we pray for his full and speedy recovery,” JEDCO’s statement read

JEDCO underscored its commitment to accountability, stating that the incident is being treated with the utmost seriousness. To that end, the company has established an independent committee comprising representatives from both management and the technical team to conduct a thorough investigation and determine whether all safety protocols were observed.

“The committee will conduct a thorough investigation and recommend concrete measures to strengthen safety compliance and prevent similar incidents in the future.”

JEDCO extended its thoughts and prayers to the affected technicians and their families, reaffirming that “the safety and wellbeing of our employees remain our highest priority, alongside our unwavering commitment to ensuring the reliable delivery of electricity to the community.”
