In a rare legal confrontation, police in Juba’s Northern Division are demanding the Office of the President to release David Amour Majur Press Secretary for investigation into a serious criminal offense allegations.

While a warrant for Majur’s arrest has been issued, police have not yet detained the suspect, a move that highlights the immunity afforded to constitutional post holders.

According to documents obtained by this news outlet, the case began with a warrant of arrest issued on September 1, 2025. It cites an offense under Sections 245/289 of the South Sudan Penal Code, 2008.

The warrant, which stemmed from a complaint filed by Josephine Adhet Deng, directs police to arrest Majur and present him to the Northern Police Division in Juba Town.

However, a letter dated September 2, 2025, from the Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs to the Office of the President confirms the legal complexities of the case. The letter, signed by Senior Public Prosecution Attorney Hon. Latjok Jal, formally requests the President’s office to “release the Accused Person” for “the Purpose of Investigation.”

This official request confirms that Majur’s legal status shields him from being directly arrested by the police. The decision now rests with the Office of the President, which holds the key to his release for questioning.

The case has attracted public attention as it puts the rule of law and the immunity of constitutional post holders to the test.

When contacted for comment, Majur at first declined to answer phone calls. However, after persistent calls and text messages, he answered the phone and when asked to acknowledge receipt of the letter or a case filed against him, Majur said, you go and ask the person who opened the case against me” and he ended the phone call.
