The Office of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) in Jonglei State has reported an estimate of 400,000 households to have been affected by recent flooding.
The recent flooding has been triggered by heavy rains and rise over Nile waters.
Speaking to this News outlet, James Madiing Akueth, the Director for Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Jonglei State emphasised that the Old Pangak and Twic East Counties are severely submerged by the flooding.
“About 15000 households are being reported in Twic East, the same is being reported in Ayod, so generally, an estimate of 400,000 people is being reported across Jonglei State. The worse is Panjak. It’s flooded entirely and its life threatening. Mading said.
“Well, this is true, the issue of flooding is concern. Currently, there are worse flood affected locations or Counties. Now, Panjak is severely affected, the entire Panjak is affected, based on what we see, Twic East is also greatly affected.’’ explained.
According to Madiing, the random assessments that have been conducted within the communities indicated a great catastrophe.
“There is no coordinated assessment that has been made, but we had instructed our over there to give us details about flooding, all the reports have been given to UNOCHA but it’s not responded yet.’’ he added
He added that the flood affected residents are in dire need of shelter, food and wash.
On other hand, Rueben Makher Ajhok, the RRC coordinator for Twic East County told this publication that more than 15000 households affected by the flooding are currently taking refuge at the highlands on Canal road and Primary Dyke within the County.
“Well, in Twic East, more than 15000 households have been affected by the flood, like now in the five payams of the County, many residents have gone to stay at canal-and others are living on the Islands” she said
Mr. Ajhok stressed that residents apparently use Canoes as a mean to cross some dry lands within the County.
He stated the residents survive on fishing activity.
“Life is really difficult, none of the Partners is now giving out aid assistance. People are only depending on fishing. The whole area is totally submerged and we have given our report to UNOCHA” he said
According to Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Jonglei State, there is no quick intervention for the flood-affected victims pledged yet by the UNOCHA and other Humanitarian Partners.
RRC BOSS in Jonglei State has appealed to State and National governments to response to the flood-affected families across the state in order to rescue the dire situation.
Early this week, the similar report about flooding cutting off villages from main town in Bor County.
