The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards (SSNBS) has yesterday cautioned the manufacturers and producers against the unauthorized use of its official logo and quality marks on product labels.
In a statement released by the Bureau, Executive Director Hon. Gloria Nyoka Joseph underscored the Bureau had observed with serious concern the unlawful use of its symbols by some businesses.
“This constitutes a violation of the National Bureau of standards Act, 2012 and the quality mark regulations, 2021 and is subject to penalties,” Gloria stated.
She further emphasized that such actions also lead to fines and or imprisonment.
She directed all manufacturers, producers, and stakeholders to immediately cease using any unauthorized SSNBS marks, warning that failure to comply would result in legal action without further notice.
The Bureau is mandated to regulate, monitor, and enforce product standards in South Sudan, ensuring the safety and quality of goods in the market.
It is the government of South Sudan regulatory authority, tasked with the development, implementation and enforcement of standards, conformity assessment, metrology and technical regulations.
These services comprise both in voluntary and regulatory regimes being performed throughout the country, States, border posts and trading centers.
The legal framework is based on the National Bureau of Standards act (2012), weights and measure act (2012).
The main objectives and functions of SSNBS include enforcement of standards provision in protection of public health, safety and the environment against sub-standards products, ensure fair trade through reliable measurement systems, and promotion of export through certification and value addition.
