By Peter Kuol Kuch

The authorities in Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) have on Monday reported that more than 300 households have been submerged by fresh flooding in Pibor headquarters in the recent week.

According to government official, the flooding has submerged part of Pibor Market and extended to cut off the Main Hospital.

Speaking to this Publication, Jacob Werchum, the Minister of Information in greater Pibor administrative area said the government has embarked on the rapid assessment to determine level of flood damages in the town.

‘’ We are here to update you about the flooding that has submerged some houses, even the market and it has cut off the road linking the counties and the state headquarters, as you called me this morning we were conducting a small assessment.’’ Werchum said

He stated the international Organisation for Migration IOM has installed the dyke to safeguard the flood but the volume of water continues to weaken the dyke.

Werchum added that the data for the flood affected people could be more when flood comprehensive report is given across the state.

‘’ this flooding is caused by the overflows of this stream, and so far, about 330 something households have been affected by the flooding in Pibor headquarters, and the now of villages is not included. The flood water has surrounded most of institutions such as Hospital and Prison. ’’ he said

He stressed that the increase of flood water at Pibor headquarters comes following the overflow of Pibor stream.

Early this month, Greater Pibor Administrative area formed a flood management committee to mobilize funds and help manage flood related issues in Pibor.
