In a move to foster stronger media partnerships, a delegation from the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS) met with the newly appointed Managing Director of the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), Mr. John Madol Panther, at the SSBC headquarters in Juba.
According to a statement by UJOSS yesterday, Madol expressed his commitment to open dialogue and stronger cooperation with media stakeholders.
“Closed doors do not lead to fruitful cooperation.” Statement partly read.
The statement underscored UJOSS also briefed the Managing Director on preparations for the 3rd edition of the Journalism Excellence Award, set for November 2025.
It further stated the union also encouraged SSBC staff to register for Union membership to benefit from legal and professional protection.
The statement emphasized that the delegation congratulated Madol on his appointment and discussed key areas of collaboration, including professional training.
Additionally, the statement underlined that the discussion was also focused on capacity building, and the importance of a free and enabling environment for media coverage particularly ahead of the upcoming general elections.
It stated the Union remains committed to building strong networks with media institutions to uphold professionalism, support journalists, and enhance the role of the media in democratic processes.
The statement highlighted that UJOSS team was led by Secretary General Majak Kuany Alier, included Deputy Secretary for Information and Communication, Ibrahim Nyekir, and other Union representatives.
The Union of Journalists of South Sudan, (UJOSS) is a legal entity aimed at protecting journalists, media freedom and ethical standards, improving working conditions for journalists including welfare.
The South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) is a national public service broadcaster in South Sudan.
It provides radio stations as well as television broadcasts through its VHF/UHF analogue transmitters in Juba.
