Prof urges Gov’t to relocate Dr. Machar’s trial venue

By Jacob Onuha Nelson

The former vice chancellor of University of Juba, Professor John Akec, has urged the government to relocate the venue for ongoing trial of suspended First Vice President Machar.

The court proceedings that started on Monday at Freedom Hall had led to negative impact on economic, social, environmental and security lives of citizens to access work, business and services in the city.

In a statement issued on Tuesday on his Facebook platform, prof urged Judicial committee to relocate the court proceedings to other peripheral locations of Juba.

Prof. Akec emphasized that the location of an event and the cross point of traffic from and to all directions had affected an access to teach, work and attend lectures at the University of Juba.

“The University’s of Juba, both students and staff are unable to access the campus for teaching, working, or attending lectures or exams,” it read.

“The judicial committee responsible for this decision should reconsider relocating the venue to peripheral locations of Juba such New Site or Luri, away from the centre of Juba city,” Prof. Akec said in part.

However, the Court proceeding for yesterday had postponed the exams for the University of Juba to sit for this semester.

The court hearing was also postponed on Tuesday for today(Wednesday) following some circumstances.
