The Governor of Warrap State, Amb. Bol Wek Agoth have called for a multi-pronged approach that encompasses the needs of vulnerable populations on the ground without forgetting citizens of Warrap State.
In a statement issued by the state press unit, the remark followed their discussion with the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and disaster management, Albino Akol Atak on flood response in Warrap State including support for the State of Emergency.
“The Governor of Warrap State called for a multi-pronged approach that encompasses the needs of vulnerable populations on the ground without forgetting citizens of Warrap State who are pushed to the brink while migrating back to South Sudan from Kakuma in Kenya and also those that are repatriated from Sudan back to Warrap State without a push in life” statement partly read.
The underscored Governor Wek reported that Warrap State was now calm following the concluded mental disarmament plus the peace and reconciliation campaign.
It further stressed that the Governor noted that many displaced persons were still living without shelter, clothing or access to medicine and clean drinking Water.
According to the statement, the Governor also noted the importance of promoting counselling and trauma healing programs for the victims who have participated or witnessed the horrors of conflict.
Additionally, it also underlined that the Governor shared a light moment during the meeting by stating that his priority which included the road.
The statement highlighted that Wek used that analogy to emphasize the seriousness of roads construction in supporting durable solutions by opening up markets, promoting social integration and enabling access to services.
On the other hand, the statement stated that Albino Akol Atak, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management testified about the challenges facing Warrap State on the ground, having accompanied the governor during his reception, and while participating in Warrap State community’s consultative meetings.
It stated that the Minister and his team in the National Government hinted that the priorities submitted by the Governor would be acted upon through delivery of humanitarian items, with priorities on worst affected areas such as Tonj East and Tonj South Counties followed by the other counties.
“The Governor of Warrap State hailed humanitarian actors including UNMISS, UNDP and Kong Koc consortium for doing a marvellous job on the ground, visible through rehabilitation of roads and building of rule of law infrastructure such as court houses and prisons” statement read.
It underscored the two leaders agreed that the long-term solution for the problems of Warrap State is to strengthen resilience and improving the communities’ self-reliance, through engaging in agriculture and other productive activities.
Additionally, it emphasized that they acknowledged the importance of commercializing the livestock wealth in Warrap State and utilizing the vast arable land for the benefit for its people.
