NBGs authorities call for Peaceful coexistence among Communities

Authorities in Aweil East County in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr El Gazal state are calling on their neighboring communities to reside in peaceful ways while grazing in the area.

The Commissioner, Garang Thiang Deng remarks came during a two-day conference which ended on Thursday in Wanjyjok Town, Aweil East County.

“This two-day conference will surely enhance peaceful coexistence between the Dinka Malual, Rezigata and Messiriya has been impactful, as we have reviewed a lot of agreements signed so far” Thiang said.

The call particularly targeted the Sudanese Nomads, the Rezigata and Messiriya cattle keepers.

He urged the participants during the conference to observe the previous agreement and adhere to them and show real commitment to peace.

Commissioner Thiang further advised the young people on both sides to observe the rule of law when the criminals attack any of the group in terms of looting cattle.

“Without peace between these groups then it can backfire as it benefits the communities living along the border where the nomads bring their cattle to for grazing particularly during the dry season” he said.

Additionally, asked the youth to report any incidences than taking the law into one’s hand to avoid disastrous acts as one can end up in jail.

Thiang underscored blood compensation is something that they want to discourage, further appealed to the youth to be vigilant and respect the agreements signed in the past.

The conference was attended by state government officials, chiefs, youth and Rezeigtat and Misseriya representatives including other stakeholders such as the United Nations agencies.
