The Special Court trying Puot Kang and seven senior SPLM-IO officials including the suspended First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar has adjourned proceedings to Friday.
During Wednesday’s session at Freedom Hall, the lead investigator presented statements from four of the accused.
According to reports the prosecution requested an adjournment citing fatigue and the need for additional time to present the remaining testimonies.
“The lead investigator, having presented witness statements earlier in the day, cited fatigue and requested more time to continue,” the report stated.
Presiding Judge James Alala Deng granted the adjournment despite objections from the defense, emphasizing the need to uphold fairness in the proceedings.
The accused face charges of mass murder, terrorism, and destruction of property linked to the March 2025 violence in Nasir County, Upper Nile State.
The case centers on allegations that Puot Kang and his co-accused orchestrated the deadly assault carried out by the White Army militia, resulting in the deaths of dozens of civilians and soldiers.
Lead Prosecutor Ajo Ohisa maintains that the evidence directly implicates the accused, while defense lawyers continue to assert their clients’ innocence.
The trial has drawn national attention as proceedings are expected to resume Friday with the presentation of statements from the remaining four accused.
