The South Sudan Revenue Authority have urged the Ministry of Finance and Planning to support in tabling of Value Added Tax (VAT) and Electronic Billing Machine (EBM) draft bills to the cabinet and Legislature.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry’s Media and communication department on Thursday, Commissioner General of the Country’s Revenue Authority, Simon Akuei emphasized that the support would help in deliberation and possible enactment into laws to boost tax and revenue mobilization.
“The Commissioner General and his team urged the Ministry of Finance and Planning to support in tabling of VAT and EBM draft bills to the cabinet and Legislature for deliberation and possible enactment into laws to boost tax and revenue mobilization” the statement partly read.
The statement further underscored Akuei made a presentation to the Senior Management of the Ministry of Finance and Planning during their meeting Chaired by Minister Athian Ding Athian.
It underlined that the Presentation was focused on the need to introduce Value Added Tax (VAT) system in the mobilization of revenues to improve and increase tax collection.
“The meeting also raised the importance of Electronic Billing Machine (EBM) to support electronic tax collections and digitize the revenues mobilization sector in line with the regional standards” the statement read.
Additionally, the statement stated Minister Athian commended the SSRA for the presentations and pledged his support to increase non-oil revenues collection and reduce over-reliance on oil revenues in the country.
Electronic Billing Machines (EBM) are essential tools for automating billing processes, ensuring tax compliance, and improving operational efficiency in businesses.
