The Aweil East County government has started road repair from Wanyjok town center to the county headquarter in Mabil.

Speaking to the Media, the County Information Director, Paul Kuc Akot said the project is aimed at improving accessibility to essential Services.

He revealed that this was initiated by the new commissioner, Garang Thiang Deng in order to showcase commitment to his mandates.

“The commissioner has initiated the road construction project within Wanyjok Town to Mabil headquarters, as there are a lot of potholes which make the movement of the vehicles of the officials and those of the traders’ impassable. And it sends a wrong signal to the viewers as well” said Kuch

According to Kuc, the road reconstruction that will link the Town with the County headquarter is a part of developmental programme in the area.

He emphasized that the commissioner had devised plans to reconstruct the damaged or cut parts of the highways in places such as Warawar to Majok-Yithiou municipal town in the border which is a hub for economic activities with the neighboring Sudanese communities.

Kuch underscored the roads like Wanjok to Aweil Town is being worked on highlighting that the ones leading to Akon from Wanjyok-Madhol-Akon highway will be repaired as it is mandatory in the developmental plan.

He further revealed that the funds are from the county budget as the African resource Cooperation company (ARC) has been engaged by the commissioner.

“The workers are being handled by the county authorities in terms of remunerating them” he added.

Kuch stressed that the construction of other infrastructure is a state and a national project but the repair of the internal road is a county’s responsibility as they are currently providing fuels solely to the workers.

Road conditions, particularly in Aweil East, continue to hinder aid delivery, with sections of the road flooded.
