Central Equatoria state governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel has called for unity in order to attain total peace in the country.
In a statement issued by the state governor’s press unit, the remark followed a courtesy visit to St. Mathias Church as part of his ongoing church engagements.
“To bring total peace and stability, we should unite because no one from outside will bring peace apart from us” statement read.
The Governor’s visit aimed to connect with believers and share his message of peace, unity, and security across the State.
Mujung highlighted peace, unity, and security as vital pillars for development and urged communities to embrace homegrown peace initiatives.
He urged collective responsibility among the church, citizens, and government in addressing the challenges facing the State.
It further underlined that Rt. Rev. Jackson Aripa, Assistant Bishop of Juba Diocese, appreciated the Governor’s visit and reaffirmed the Church’s support to the government.
“The Governor’s continued church visits reflect the State government’s commitment to partnering with faith leaders to promote peace, strengthen trust, and foster unity among citizens” the statement read.
Peace in South Sudan has always been fragile, marked by cycles of violence and eroded trust. From the eruption of civil war in 2013 to the revitalized peace agreement in 2018, each step toward stability has been hard-fought. Today, the main obstacles to sustainable peace have become more localized with sporadic cattle raiding and gang violence among youth groups.
