East African communications regulators have harmonized key human resource policies to align with Rwanda’s updated labor laws and promote regional integration during a three-day meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.
In a statement from South Sudan’s National Communication Authority (NCA) which also joined the other regional regulators in the session, the meeting formed part of EACO’s annual program aimed at strengthening cooperation, harmonization, and policy alignment among member states.
The session underscored the importance of aligning EACO’s human resource frameworks with regional and national labor standards to enhance policy coherence among member states.
“The meeting provided an important opportunity for member states to review and harmonize human resource policies in line with the host country’s revised labor laws and regional integration goals,” noted NCA’s statement.
The meeting, convened by the East African Communications Organisation (EACO) Human Resource Committee, also discussed enhancing institutional capacity and improving staff welfare across the organization.
Officials emphasized the need to strengthen the institutional capacity of regulatory authorities and improve staff welfare across the region.
“Through such engagements, EACO continues to strengthen institutional capacity and promote consistent, people-centered practices across communications regulatory authorities in the East African region,” noted NCA in a statement.
The EACO HR Committee is responsible for formulating and reviewing human resource and administrative policies to ensure compliance with national and regional legal frameworks.
EACO brings together communication regulators, operators, and stakeholders from East Africa to promote cooperation, innovation, and policy coordination within the ICT and communications sector.
The outcomes of the meeting are expected to inform future HR frameworks and reinforce legal conformity across the organization’s regional operations.
