The Minister of Information and Communication in Warrap state confirmed the bombardment in Tonj East County.
Mamer Bath Marol, the state Information Minister told this publication on Tuesday that the bombardment target areas where armed youth resist the ongoing disarmament.
“The bombardment occurred in Wunlit, Wang-gai among other areas, that is what the commissioner of Tonj East told this but today some areas are also under attack” said Mamer
However, in separate statement to the Media, SSPDF spokesperson Maj Gen Lul Ruai said that he was not aware of the bombardment in Warrap state.
Ruai made the statement while speaking to the media during the display of weapons seized from individuals in Juba during disarmament exercise.
Bath downplayed the consequences caused by the bombardment saying, these are rules of the state of Emergency as violence is being perpetrated by armed youth who keep getting unruly, they have to act that way.
He added that the government forces opted to bombardment after some youth continue to be unruly and causing instability in the state.
“The SSPDF have to do nothing then to engage the armed youth who come in cattle camps with aims of launching attacks to their rival communities” he said.
“so, we have to do nothing as authorities as SSPDF have a duty of protection, they have to intervene” he added
Bath said they have employed different efforts to make sure youth heed to their calls but all was in vain, saying some among them gave up their weapons.
“Some of these youth get infuriated on issues such as pregnancies of their daughters or sisters and they take laws upon themselves by wielding weapons and go the accused families with guns, so we have to do nothing then relying on SSPDF to execute their duties as they are prime source security” He stated.
Minister Mamer didn’t disclose, when will the bombardment will end, as it is reported that it began Monday yesterday and continued into Tuesday morning, with authorities remaining adamant to give realistic report on causalities and number of cattle killed during the onslaught or bombing drive.
Some analysts and residents altogether, do criticize such decision of bombing the communities where the forces with arms are being reported as it leads to destruction of properties such as loss of lives, permanent negative effects on environment as some of the bombs contain cluster or nuclear weapons.
