The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) has officially opened its Rumbek Currency Centre, a landmark facility that marks a new chapter in the expansion and modernization of the country’s financial infrastructure.
In a statement issued by the BoSS press unit, Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, Governor of the Bank of South Sudan, emphasized that the currency center is a key step toward creating jobs.
“The grand opening of this Currency Centre in Rumbek is a testimony to the prosperity and stability of our great nation. Given the strategic location of Rumbek town, the establishment of this Currency Centre is a reward for our liberation and a key step toward creating jobs for our people” the statement read.
He announced that the recruitment team from the Bank will recruit 100% of the unclassified staff directly from Rumbek, ensuring employment opportunities for the local community in a transparent manner.
He underscored the BoSS is fully committed to ensuring that this Currency Centre contributes to economic growth and stability in our country.
“I call upon all commercial banks to expand their operations across Lakes State, to enhance access to banking services and promote an inclusive financial system for all” the statement partly read.
In her part, the 2nd Deputy Governor for Administration and Finance at the Bank of South Sudan Rita Nyankiir Akoon underscored the lakes states government’s unwavering efforts in maintaining stability and security.
“I also wish to extend special appreciation to the Government of Lakes State for their unwavering efforts in maintaining stability and security” she said.
She Congratulated the leadership of the Bank and to His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit for their continued guidance and support.
“I would like to acknowledge and appreciate all those who initiated this important project. Today, we proudly mark the beginning of a new journey for the Bank of South Sudan and for our nation as a whole” she said.
Nyankiir emphasized that despite the many challenges we have encountered along the way, they had finally inaugurated this remarkable facility.
She added that the achievement was a proud moment for the entire family of the Bank of South Sudan.
Meanwhile, Lakes State Governor Rin Tueny Mabor, appealed to the community of lakes state to protect the facility.
“I am appealing to the people of Lakes State and Rumbek Central County in particular to own this facility and protect it as a national asset” she said.
“In a very special way, I would like to congratulate President Salva Kiir Mayardit for considering our great Lakes State” she added.
Tueny underscored with peace now prevailing, the facility could be the true dividend of peace, and government should embark on a path of development.
He added that the development has been demonstrated by the Bank Governor, Dr. Addis Ababa Othow, for ensuring that the facility is operational.
“All these achievements under the leadership of President Salva Kiir Mayardit are a fulfillment of the promises we made during our struggle for total independence” he said.
The Rumbek Currency center forms part of the Bank of South Sudan broader program to establish regional currency centres across the country, a critical component of its institutional reform strategy aimed at improving operational efficiency, ensuring timely currency availability, and supporting economic activity at the grass roots level.
