The Former Vice President (VP) and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster, Dr Benjamin Bol Mel has thanked President Salva Kiir Mayardit and cited progress during his time in office.
As former head of the economic cluster, Dr. Bol expressed that his leadership has focused on all possible means to attract investors into the country.
“We worked to attract new investments into the country, opening doors for private-sector participation and laying important foundations for long-term economic growth,” he said.
On Wednesday, President Salva Kiir dismissed Dr. Bol from his position as Vice President and removed him from the top seat in the SPLM.
Bol was also demoted from full general in the army to private and subsequently dismissed from National Security service.
Despite the dramatic relief from various positions, Dr. Bol appreciated President Salva Kiir Mayardit for giving him a chance to serve the country in such top positions.
Dr. Bol issued the appreciated letter on Thursday, just a day after his dismissal.
“Your Excellency, I extend my deepest gratitude to you for granting me the privilege to serve the people of South Sudan as Vice President and Chairperson of the Economic Cluster, and as First Deputy Chairperson of the SPLM Party,” Dr. Bol said in a statement.
The former Vice President expressed that after his appointment he performed in all his positions.
The former VP revealed that his term of office has achieved several, including proper utilization of non-oil revenue.
In regards to diplomacy, Dr Bol cited his constant engagement with the world with hope to ensure that the relationship between South Sudan and other countries is strengthen.
The former VP, who is also a former First Deputy Chairperson of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), stated that his previous activities were geared implementing the vision and mission of the party.
He expressed that his leadership was toward the revival of the party, as it has been a continuous message from the president, who is the chairperson.
The former VP expressed optimism on the progress of South Sudan and SPLM under President Salva Kiir Mayardit, adding that the head of state has already placed the country on the right path.
“As our nation moves forward, I have full confidence that South Sudan and the SPLM will continue to rise under your stewardship.” he said.
Dr. Bol credited these achievements to what he described as the “enabling environment and steady leadership” of President Kiir.
In February 2025 Dr. Bol was appointed as vice president and head of the government’s economic cluster replacing Dr. James Wani Igga.
He further solidified his place in the nation’s leadership in May when he was appointed First Deputy Chairman of the SPLM.
