Give candidates time for preparation ahead of exams- Education Minister

By Hou Akot Hou

The Minister of Education in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state has urged the parents and guardians to let candidates prepare ahead of the slated examinations that will kick off on Monday.

Minister Akoon Diing Angok told the parents to give ample time to the learners particularly girls in order to prepare themselves for the national examinations.

Akoon made an appeal after the state received the Boxes packed with the examination papers.

“I am here to make it public that we have received the examination in boxes and I have ensured that they are locked into the police cells so that they are not tempered with,” said Akoon

“We don’t want malpractices such as “machot” which has been happening and all we want is the intelligence of the pupils and students. Allow them test their understanding and I know our teachers have done their best despite the challenges so it is time for the learners to attest to what they have learnt” he said.

Diing disclosed that those 80 centers, with over 20,000 candidates will receive the examinations and the invigilators will ensure that they do their work selflessly.

“I am urging the invigilators to avoid being illicit activity such as working at night to reveal the exam. This is not the thing of the modern time” he said.

“We want Northern Bahr El Ghazal to showcase the power of education and this is when we allow our learners to test their understanding without doing something behind the scene” he added.

He emphasized the need to provide help to learners where it is due because some candidates will be travelling from far places to centers where they will spend a week before they return to their original residences and await the results.

In the pasts, examinations have been marred by illicit activities such as “machot”, a coined word for a malpractice of helping the learners know the examination beforehand.

This has seen the students pass with notable results but poorly perform in colleges and universities.
