Jonglei state government starts road rehabilitation in Bor town

Jonglei State Government have started pressing forward with road rehabilitation works in Bor County on Monday as the Christmas season approaches.

The road rehabilitation ensured that communities can connect more easily during this festive period.

In a statement issued by the state’s press unit, the initiative aimed to improve access and mobility across the county.

Kuony Yien Nyuon, the state minister of Cabinet Affairs, highlighted that Bor County has been severely affected by floods over the past two years, damaging critical road infrastructure.

Yien underscored the state government, in partnership with the county administration and the municipality, has mobilized financial resources to carry out continuous rehabilitation efforts.

Ateny Pech Ariik, Bor County commissioner, emphasized that the project is fully funded by the government.

He stressed that this initiative reflects the vision of the Governor of Jonglei State, Riek Gai Kok.

Ateny said that the expanding infrastructure footprint aligns with the wider state expectation of results-driven leadership under Governor Riek.

“Riek’s Renewed Hope Agenda, where economic activity is unlocked by better connectivity, and citizens can literally feel governance through improved daily life he expressed.

“Governor Riek’s era will not be like those that have passed. It is an era of development, peace, and security” Ateny added.

He assured the people of Jonglei state about the stability being maintained in Jonglei state.

“We assure our people that stability is being maintained in Jonglei” Ateny assured.

Road connectivity is a critical factor in the social and economic development of Jonglei State. Reliable road networks are essential to link these areas, promote unity, and support sustainable development.

It also improved road connectivity enhances economic activities as many communities in Jonglei depend on fishing, and livestock.

When roads are passable throughout the year, especially during the rainy season, local trade can flourish and attract private investment.

Furthermore, road networks are vital for access to basic services including health facilities, schools, and government offices are often located far from rural villages.

With better roads, patients can reach hospitals in time, children can attend school more regularly, and government services can reach remote areas. This improves overall living standards and reduces inequality between urban and rural communities.
