Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony over the weekend officially launched the Juba City Clean-up campaign.
The initiative that attracted members of the public is meant to raise general awareness on the dangers of littering and rally the public to keep the city cleaner, greener, and safer.
In his remark during the launching, Governor Adil emphasized that the initiative aligns with President Kiir’s directive to reorganize Juba City, a key agenda of the State Government’s efforts in lifting Juba City for modern urbanization.
The governor, who was among the well-wishers who participated in cleaning of the city over the weekend during the launching, called on the members of the public to embark on frequent cleanliness.
Adil announced a crackdown on littering in Juba, warning that anyone found throwing plastic bottles or other waste in public places and along the streets will face legal consequences.
“I’m warning that anyone found throwing plastic bottles or other waste in public places or along the streets will face consequences; this becomes a crime here in Juba,” he said.
The governor reiterated the government’s commitment to deploy security forces in all the corners of Juba.
He urged the drivers and Rakasha riders to advise their passengers to stop throwing bottles while moving on the streets, citing that the security officers will continue to monitor.
He directed the Juba City Council mayor to implement the directives in order to keep Juba City clean and safe.
Adil urged the public to collaborate with the Juba City Council, assuring them of his unwavering support towards a greener and safer Juba City.
On his part, H.W. Christopher Sarafino Wani, the Mayor of Juba City Council, highlighted that waste management is a national concern impacting people’s health and livelihoods, calling for daily collective efforts from government, citizens, and businesses to make Juba clean and green.
The event drew government officials from both the national and state levels, the State SPLM Secretariat, business communities, corporations, organized forces, and the general public, highlighting the collective efforts towards the sustainability of the initiative. The cleaning campaign is officially launched in Juba Block and will be extended to Kator, Munuki, and Gudele Blocks for wider reach.
