Members of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful and democratic elections.
The vow was made on Tuesday, according to a statement issued after the top party members organized a New Year dinner in Juba.
Addressing the media on the sidelines of the event, Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, Secretary General of SSOA, reaffirmed the Alliance’s unwavering commitment to peace, political stability, and democratic transition in South Sudan.
“We are prepared and ready to participate in the upcoming elections in a responsible, peaceful, and democratic manner,” Dr. Lam Akol stated.
Akol said that the leadership of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance remains committed to promoting peace.
“The leadership of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance remains fully committed to the promotion of peace and the full implementation of the peace agreement,” he said.
He emphasized that the SSOA continues to prioritize national unity, reconciliation, and the creation of a conducive political environment that allows all South Sudanese citizens to freely exercise their democratic rights.
The event served as a platform for reflection on the achievements and challenges of the past year in the SSOA party.
The events also focused on the strategic discussions on the Alliance’s political direction ahead of the upcoming general elections, which will be conducted this year, December, 2026.
The event was attended by senior SSOA leaders, party representatives, and key stakeholders.
Meanwhile, Josephine Lagu Yanga, vice president, underscored the importance of unity within the Alliance and collective leadership.
Lagu expressed that shared responsibility in steering the country toward lasting peace and democratic governance.
She called on SSOA leaders to remain focused, cooperative, and responsive to the aspirations of the people of South Sudan.
The New Year Dinner concluded with a renewed commitment from the SSOA leadership to work collaboratively toward peaceful elections and a stable political future for the Republic of South Sudan.
