Authorities of Twic County in Warrap state has suspended three executive chiefs over an alleged involvement in a land dispute at Aweng payam.
Their involvement had caused dispute leading to a brawl that resulted in the death of 2 people including a woman who were all fighting over a land.
The office of the executive director passed a resolution in the county suspending Muor-ter Riing Yuot, Anei Manyang Anei all executive chiefs and subchief, Deng Anei, who were accused of involving in the fight.
Commissioner Mabior Marup said the executive order has been passed in order to help pave way for an investigation after their suspension.
Mabior emphasized that the authority had taken that action in order to curtail further escalation of the case as it involved in death.
“We have suspended chief Muor-ter Riing Yuot, Anei Manyang Anei, and subchief Deng Anei and their replacements include the executive Kuol Deng Angui who will succeed Muor-ter Riing” said Marup.
“This issue of fighting over the land as it involved the death of two people was disastrous in Aweng payam as people were arguing too much over it so we leave it to the court to settle it while the chiefs are out of their seats as they are seen inciting” he stated.
Marup added that the other arrests have been made so far including three people who were seen as prime suspects who collude together to ignite the fight.
Land disputes have been occurring in most parts of the country, with those having powerful connection as people who use their relatives to incite the problems in order to amass plots.
Despite the land Act in place, people do complain about the breaching of such crucial steps in acquisition of land.
