The Ikwoto County commissioner, Loboi Timon Lolori, has urged the Eastern Equatoria State Governor to render humanitarian assistance in the county.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the call came during the brief meeting between and the local population on the ground.
“The Commissioner appealed to the Governor to visit Ikwoto County to personally engage with the local population and assess the situation on the ground,” the statement partly read.
According to the statement, the commissioner informed the governor about water shortage in some areas, poor road conditions and continuous influx of alcoholic locally known as “Guu” into Ikwoto County, that has contributed to an increase in criminal activities.
The prevailing security situation in the county had generally calmed with only few cases of robbery along Tsretenya – Ikwoto road.
“The Governor appreciated the report, particularly the update on security” the statement read.
The statement emphasized that the governor directed the Commissioner to intensify community engagement in Ikwoto County to contribute through cost-sharing toward road maintenance.
It also underscored that the Governor also instructed him to coordinate with the Torit County Commissioner and join efforts in lobbying for the repair and rehabilitation of the affected roads.
However, despite this consistent funding level, many needs remain unmet and humanitarian standards are not fully adhered to.
