VP Wani urges SPLM officials to focus on addressing economic challenges

Vice president and Chairperson for the Economic Cluster who is also the First Deputy of SPLM, James Wani Igga urged Caucus members to innovate in reviewing economic challenges in country.

In the statement issued Sudan Peoples Liberation Movement (SPLM) party press department, the remark came during a joint meeting of the caucus at the secretariat house in Juba on Tuesday.

According to the statement, James Wani Igga, the SPLM, 1st Deputy Chairman urged the members of Caucuses to innovate in reviewing economic challenge.

“I urged members of the expanded caucuses to think innovatively and outside the box in reviewing the country’s challenging economic conditions” Wani urged.

Wani emphasized that the view was to identify areas where timely and constructive reforms could be undertaken.

The meeting brought together senior party leadership and members to deliberate on key political, organizational and legislative priorities.

It aimed at strengthening the party unity, initiating dialogue and elections which will be conducted in December this year.

According to Wani, such efforts would enhance the party’s collective capacity to mobilize the resources needed to support key SPLM activities.

He emphasized the importance of different means for mobilizing resources to ensure the successful convening of SPLM congresses and the upcoming national convention.

Wani noted that the party leadership was actively addressing resource mobilization and fundraising strategies.

Meanwhile, Akol Paul, the SPLM Secretary General, highlighted several key resolutions on presentation of the outcomes.

Pual presented that the joint caucuses resolved that SPLM will participate in the general elections scheduled for December 2026, in line with the extended transitional roadmap.

He said that the caucuses further agreed to ratify election-related Bills once they were presented before the National Legislature.

Paul presented that the meeting also resolved that the name SPLM should not be misused or referred to in any distorted form, emphasizing that no other political party should bear a similar name.

He added that participants reiterated that unity and cohesiveness within the SPLM remain paramount for the stability of the country.

Paul mentioned that on dialogue, the caucus agreed to promote intra-party dialogue within the SPLM to address internal challenges.

He said that inter-party dialogue among political parties to collectively address election-related and other national issues.

Paul summarized the chairman’s message into four key points, Commitment to elections, Dialogue within the party and among political parties.

He also summarized the points on Unity of the SPLM, and Preparation for the upcoming elections.

The meeting featured two presentations one on political matters delivered by the SPLM Secretary General and another on legal issues presented by Michael Makuei Lueth.

The joint caucus further reaffirmed the SPLM’s commitment the ruling party to inclusive governance, peacebuilding.

The caucus underscored the implementation of agreed national priorities in line with the party’s vision and guiding principles.
