Morobo Commissioner Urges Heightened Security After Civilian Killed

By James Innocent

The Commissioner of Morobo County, Charles Data Bullen, has instructed all organized security forces in the county to remain on high alert following the killing of a civilian by unidentified gunmen on the outskirts of Morobo Town on Wednesday night.

The victim, identified as 21-year-old Bidali Emmanuel, was shot and killed during the late-night attack. Speaking on Thursday afternoon at the funeral service held at the family’s residence, Commissioner Data strongly condemned the incident, describing it as unacceptable violence against civilians.

He called on armed groups operating in the area to refrain from targeting non-combatants and instead pursue peaceful means of resolving disputes.

The commissioner stressed that protecting lives and property remains a top priority for security agencies, particularly as Morobo County continues to receive a growing number of returnees.

According to relatives and neighbors, Emmanuel reportedly stepped outside his room after hearing unusual noises in the neighborhood and encountered the assailants, who shot him shortly before midnight.

Local residents suspect the attackers may have been armed individuals attempting to raid cattle, though authorities say investigations are ongoing.

In response to the killing, Commissioner Data convened an emergency security meeting on Thursday morning with leaders of all security organs in the county.

The meeting focused on assessing the security situation and implementing immediate measures to prevent further incidents and enhance the safety of residents.

The Office of the Commissioner expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing any information that could assist with the investigation.
