PASSPORT : DNPI receives over 10,000 booklets

The Directorate of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport and Immigration (DNPI) has announced resumption of passport issuance after receiving over 10,000 booklets.

Speaking to the media on Friday, 16 January 2026, DNPI Director General Maj. Gen. Elia Kosta Faustino revealed that the resumption after receiving the booklets.

He announced that the Directorate received over 10,000 booklets citing that members of the public will start to get their passport on Monday.

“We in the Directorate of DNPI hereby to announce to our people in the Republic of South Sudan that we have received a number of regular passports and diplomatic passports plus nationality cards, which we don’t have it for some days back” he said.

“What I can tell our public that from Monday we are going to start issuing the passport, and then the nationality. But we are not going to issue it to everybody” he added.

According to Kosta students applying for school scholarship and the patients who are referred for treatment outside the country would be taken as the first priority.

“So, the condition will be, if you are a student going for a scholarship, you must bring to us, to whom it may concern, to prove that you are going for a scholarship from the Ministry of Higher Education. And those who are abroad, theirs will come through the embassies where they are” Kosta explained.

He underscored that for the sick people; the directorate requires a medical requirement for treatment abroad.

Kosta stated that ten thousand and fifty regular passport booklets, thirty-five thousand nationality Identity cards and three hundred and eighty thousand personal Identity cards in their stock.

Additionally, over twenty-seven thousand special passports booklets and four thousand four hundred and four Diplomatic passport booklets.

He urged those who had already obtained their Nationality Identity cards to start processing the personal Identity cards.

Kosta stated that the personal Identity card shall help in the process of opening bank accounts and obtaining land.

He assured the citizens never to have any shortage of passport booklets and nationality Identity cards.

“I’m sure we will have no shortage again, because we have signed a contract with a certain company who will provide us this booklet and cards once we require them” he told the media.

Meanwhile, Gen. Said Chawul Lom the Inspector General of police emphasized that citizens should obtain the with reasons but not keeping it in their rooms without making use of it.

“There are some people who processing the passport but they are not making use of it. They keep it clean inside, you need to processing when you are for a mission” said.

The country had run out of the nationality identity cards and passport booklets for quite several months making citizens and students travelling abroad to abort their missions.
