Vice President and the chairperson of the economic cluster, Josephine Joseph Lagu has urged the Mundari community to turn their just ended cultural festival into infrastructural development.
She made this remark during the 3rd Mundari cultural festival in Terekeka, urging the community to live in peace and harmony.
“What a great opportunity for the people of Terekeka now to look at development. Let us turn all this energy, this vibrant energy we have seen displaced here into development. We can do it together with the young people, custodians of culture, the women and the elders in this community” she said.
She stated that the government do not want the Mundari people, for any reason to continue with any form of violence.
Josephine highlighted that Terekeka has the great potential to become fishing industry in the country. That plan is there, pledging a plan to develop that project.
“We can transform this community. We can transform Terekeka and let it become the outflow of development from Juba. When you are from Teraekeka, and you build a house in Juba, make sure you build another house in Terekeka as well” she said.
Looking at education and health facility, Josephine underscored that it was so challenging to she the whole of Terekeka without hospital and education facilities.
“Indeed, I was looking around as we were driving from Juba to Terekeka. Indeed, I didn’t see any schools near the roads. I didn’t see any health centers either”.
“So that becomes a challenge. And I’ll make sure that I pay a special visit in conjunction with the Minister of Education, Minister of General Education, and the Minister of Health to come to Terakeka County and to inspect the health and educational facilities” she highlighted.
She emphasized that the government of national unity, the revitalized government of national unity, has the responsibility to ensure that it provide basic services to the people across the country, including the Mundari people.
In his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and international corporation, Sumaya Kumba applauded the community for their peaceful cultural display.
“I would like to emphasized the fact that Mundari people are very good people, Mundari people are hard-working people, Mundari people are brave people, and Mundari people are one of the best communities in our country”.
The Mundari Cultural Festival has grown over the years as a national attraction, drawing attention from cultural enthusiasts, researchers, community leaders, and visitors from across the country and beyond.
