By Lodu William Odiya

The East African entertainment scene is heating up after South Sudanese artist Queen Nancy boldly announced her intention to take on Uganda’s trending Winni Winsha Lakubukubu” dance on 31-January in Juba this week.

In an exclusive telephone interview with this outlet, Queen Nancy said she is ready to “shake the club” with a fresh dance challenge that will showcase South Sudan’s unique rhythm, fashion, and energy.

“I respect Uganda’s creativity, but it’s time South Sudan steps forward and shows its own fire. Lakubukubu is hot, but wait until you see what we’re cooking” she said.

The Lakubukubu dance, popularized by Ugandan dancer and influencer Winni Winsha, has gone viral across TikTok and Facebook, with thousands of young people recreating its fast footwork and playful waist moves.

The trend that has crossed borders, attracting dancers from Magwi, Torit and Juba will be seen as a battle for peace.

Queen Nancy’s announcement has sparked excitement rather than hostility, with fans framing it as a healthy cultural competition.

“We as Baridi family will go in full swing, Yang Podi Iyella, onongo queen Tidi” she does her acapella.

Dollar Bill Kamkalamat Music, Hellyeona Gaga and Fuji for money including dancers has online emphasized that such rivalries help push creativity and give regional talent international visibility.

“This is not beef, it’s entertainment,” one fan commented. Let the best moves win” she said.

Industry observers believe Queen Nancy’s upcoming dance release could mark a turning point for South Sudanese pop culture, which has often been underrepresented in regional entertainment conversations.

If her challenge catches on, it could inspire more cross-border collaborations and friendly dance battles across East Africa.

As anticipation builds, fans from both countries are watching closely, phones ready, waiting to see whether Queen Nancy’s next move will truly “hit down” Lakubukubu or simply elevate the entire regional dance scene to a new level.
