Local peace committee chairperson for Aweil East County in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state has cited calm along the border following numerous peace accords that have been signed and reviewed between Dinka Malual, Rezigat and Misseriya nomad groups.
Following a symposium conducted by United Nations Mission in South Sudan at Wanyjok Town last week in Aweil east, Luka Lual Nhial, hails the review meeting between the two tribes Dinka Malual and Misseriya some representatives of Rezigat as a key step in addressing local grievances.
“The meeting was for four day one, it brought about 35 individuals from Dinka Malual chiefs, youth women and government officials and the representatives of Misseriya and Rezigat” he lamented.
Lual said the review meeting was meant about the resolutions passed in the past years which encompass, blood compensation and grazing rights.
“We have reviewed the accords, which include 41 cows in form of money for the local person killed on both sides” he lamented.
“Also, the grazing rights for these people who come from North Sudan, we say the nomads have to alert the people about their coming so that they don’t interfere with the farmers at the border farming autoactivates” he said.
Nhial, hails the symposium as too landmark step, as no more threats and fighting have been reported along the border this year.
“There is no report of killings that have unfolded this year and we want our people to adopt that” he cited.
As local agreements has been signed, some blame the local rivalries on those who trigger the feuds due to looting spree that they do in order to enhance or enrich themselves, Nhial addresses those issues as isolated but minimal this year.
