By Chol D. Johnson
As the country faces youth unemployment, the Associations’ leaders have been urged to ensure that youth are empowered across the country.
The call for youth empowerment remains a role for the government, non-governmental organizations, and youth associations.
As part of the democratic processes, the Dachuek Youth Association in Juba(DYA-J) elected a new chairperson to proceed with youth empowerment programs.
The youth elections, which were conducted on Saturday, attracted several government officials to witness the peaceful transition of power among the young people.
During a competitive election process, Eng Lual Mayen Arok, the flagbearer of Dachuek United Youth Alliance (DUYA), emerged as winner for Dachuek Youth Association in Juba (DYA-J) 2026-2028 election.
Mayen won the election with 346 votes, defeating his opponent, Matiop John Kuir, the flagbearer of the Dachuek Progressive Alliance (DPA), who got fewer votes.
Lual Mayen Dau, the chairperson of the election committee for the Youth Association, declared the results for DYA-J 2026-2028.
“I declare Lual Mayen Arok as the new Chairperson elected for DYA-J 2026-2028 with 346 votes,” Mayen declared.
The elected youth chairperson, Mayen, expressed his gratitude to voters and organizers as well as his opponent.
“Matiop John has the quality of good leadership, but as chances are given to me, he will be granting a new opportunity,” he expressed.
He highlighted that the winning was dedicated to the mothers who fought harder to bring up their children to be better people and leaders.
Mayen holds a bachelor’s degree in electronic and telecommunication engineering from the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
He also holds a master of arts in project management from the prestigious University of Juba.
In his part, Deng Garang Thon, the Dachuek Progressive Alliance (DPA) observer, stated that the election was fairly conducted.
Matiop John Kuir, the flagbearer of DPA, expressed that the results are fair and congratulated the newly elected chairperson.
“I accepted the result as fair, and congratulations to Mayen for the opportunity. I will work hand-in-hand with him for the progress of the community,” Matiop expressed.
Bul John Thon, the campaign manager of the DUYA team, expressed his gratitude and appreciated the votes for the great win.
“It is my pleasure to win this victory with Lual Mayen for the betterment of our community,” John expressed.
He called on the youth to embrace peace and unity among themselves and with the neighbors.
Youth associations address pressing social issues, such as education, poverty, and health, among others.
Through several initiatives, young people are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and mindset necessary to shape a brighter future for themselves and the world at large.
Within these associations, young leaders emerge, driven by a shared vision of creating a better world. They embody resilience, determination, and a deep commitment to effecting change. Moreover, youth associations provide a platform for personal growth and self-discovery. They offer a safe space for young individuals to explore their strengths, overcome challenges, and develop essential life skills. By engaging in activities such as public speaking, project management, and teamwork, young people gain confidence and learn to navigate the complexities of the world.
The youth associations play a pivotal role in empowering the next generation. By fostering leadership, nurturing personal growth, and promoting social change, they create a ripple effect that extends far beyond their immediate communities.
