The National Minister of Culture, Museums, and National Heritage, Sarah Nyanath Elijiah, has affirmed her ministry’s commitment to developing comprehensive policies to support cultural groups in Unity State.

In a statement issued on Monday, Nyanath emphasized that the Ministry is working on frameworks to strengthen cultural organizations both in Unity State and across South Sudan.

She made the remarks during a meeting with Geng Kuong Puok, Unity State’s Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, in which they discussed challenges facing the cultural sector and explored ways the national Ministry could assist in building the capacities of state-level staff.

“The Ministry is committed to building the capacities of cultural staff in state ministries to revitalize cultural activities and programs across the country,” Nyanath stressed.

According to the press statement, the new policies aim to provide a foundation for sustained cultural growth and preservation.

For his part, Kuong expressed his ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the national Ministry to strengthen Unity State’s cultural sector. He underscored the importance of a unified approach and revealed plans to launch a cultural festival in the state.

Kuong also extended an invitation to Nyanath to visit Unity State and witness cultural initiatives firsthand.

The collaboration between the national and state ministries highlights a shared commitment to promoting South Sudan’s rich and diverse cultural heritage. It also seeks to address challenges faced in Unity State while supporting grassroots cultural activities.

The Ministry further stated that its broader goal is to foster unity, pride, and identity through culture, ensuring that cultural programs contribute to national cohesion and resilience.
