CHEATING IN THE NATIONAL EXAMINATIONS IS KILLING EDUCATION IN SOUTH SUDAN.

By: Ayuel Mangok Angui

Cheating in the school certificate of education is the most greatest enemy that is hurting the education in the entire world to produce the good fruits of its products as it is expected by the scholars of education. Education is the key for success and light of the world, where all of us are dependent of it, and its failure to achieve its objectives is a failure for all of us.

The world education has gone deeply in the quality research and has produced qualify remarkable scientists, who can study the cause of a certain disease and virus in order to discover the medicines for treating them.

The global education has succeeded in achieving its aims in quality education, because it has prospered in closing all the doors of cheating in the national and school examinations administered for graduation and promotion to the next academic years.

Despite the global world has flourished in obtaining its goals by implementing quality education, then South Sudan is the country in the world and in Africa, whose education has been affected by cheating at both primary and secondary examination. The future of the nation is built on the education, which produces qualify graduates in all fields of the specializations.

The number of qualify graduates in different fields of specializations in education is produced, when the quality education is achieved in the country, and when the ministry of education has closed all the doors of cheating and malpractice in the national examination.

Due to the ignorance and lack of interest in quality education, the national ministry of education in the capital Juba has failed to carry out its obligations in controlling cheating in the promotional examinations as it is required by the law of South Sudan.

The misguided proctors allow both pupils and students to go to the examination rooms with their electronic phones and exercise books containing the answers of a particular subject given to be done in order to help them copy and deal with the answers of that subject during the examination, and both pupils and students do it only for the purpose of passing even if they don’t have the knowledge in the subject that they have cheated.

This has led to the passing of huge number of pupils and students with the high average scores in the school leaving certificate examinations, which they are not supposed to obtain if they would have been well supervised by the serious invigilators, who are interested in quality education than quantity education.

On the other hand, the effect of cheating to both pupils and students is that most of them perform poorly in the school level examinations, when they are admitted to secondary, and university, and most of them end up dropping before they have not completed their studies in many fields of specializations offered to them.

To make the matter worse, our students, who have been given an opportunities to go for their further studies in developed and developing countries, and whom we have trusted to perform very well in those foreign universities in various countries, and continents, where they are admitted to pursue their studies in various fields of education are returned back to us, because of poor performance that they have shown in those schools, and colleges, where they are admitted to specialize according to their specializations.

It has now become known that the neighbouring and far away countries are no longer offering scholarships to South Sudanese students, who have finished their secondary schools, and have passed very well with good grades in the subjects of specializations on account of their incompetency to compete with the international students in spite of the high average score marks they have scored in the national examinations.

Again, our five public universities in the republic of South Sudan have graduated good number of graduates, who doesn’t read and write, and I become worry with doubt that this country will be full of many unqualify graduates, who will pretend that they are educated, when they are not actually capable in fulfilling their roles or handle  their affairs as an educated people. Who can be blamed for all these messes in national education?

I, as a South Sudanese, and teacher by profession, cannot reproach the students even though they are misled by the corrupt citizens to cheat the school certificate examinations, but the blame has been taken into the hand of ministry of general education, and instruction, who used to favour, and who used to employ the teachers by nature rather than the teachers by profession, while it doesn’t know that those teachers by nature have not specialized in the field of education, and don’t know the importance of implementing quality education in the country.

Those teachers who are called teachers by nature are the one who sell away the examination so as to get money that may help them to enrich their own personal -satisfactions, whereas they don’t know that they are harming the education of the country South Sudan.

As a truth to tell for the sake of the nation South Sudan, I am writing to inform the educationists, and the South Sudan National Examination Council (SSNEC) who are in the national ministry of education that destroying the country is not only based on the dropping of atomic bomb on the ground of that country, but we also destroy the country, when we annihilate her education. Therefore, we have to be keen in the way we handle our education in South Sudan or otherwise all of us are going to face the consequences of destroying our education.
