Women Leader calls on youths to refrain from warfare but learn to be Peace champions

The women leader at Jonglei State women association has called on the Youths in South Sudan to refrain from warfare.

The women leader urged the youth to engage in activities that championing Peace.

Speaking during Youth Caravan in Bor on Wednesday, Madam Joyce, the Chairperson of Jonglei women association emphasized that majority of Youth in South Sudan are easily influenced by South Sudan Leaders to engage on many senseless warfare which endangers their lives.

“As a mother, we are tied seeing our youth being influenced to fight wars which have no meaning. I am urging them, the future belongs to them, and they must invest in education but refrain from aimless wars, “Joyce said.

Madam Joyce stated Youth Must learned to utilize their skill and knowledge for building up the Country instead of being influenced to fight among themselves.

She stressed that many of potential South Sudanese Youth have perished in the recent years of civil wars in South Sudan.

“If you could see for past years, many youths have died in this kind of wars. But that’s not good. As for you today, I am requesting you to be peace ambassadors-knowing them that you’re one and you must not die for this cause. You have a future ahead” she said.

Madam Joyce appealed to youths to embark on the productive activities which can enhance peace and development in the Country.

Meanwhile Kuol Chuol, the Minister for Gender Child, and Social Welfare in Jonglei State urged the Youth to avoid incitement messages that can tarnish peace among the communities on Social Media.

He said Social Media is wrongly misused by some youth as a tool to incite violence against other communities in the South.

“I, m surprise sometimes to see how youth are using social media. They use a lot of inciting messages against other communities and this can cause violence. Please use social media meaningfully” Chuol said.

However, he appealed to Partners to work jointly in supporting Peace initiatives in South Sudan.

Speaking while addressing the Yuoth Caravan, the Director General at the Ministry of Peace-building in Jonglei State Hon. Chol Wuor urged the people to be innovative and exercise the skills which can build up the County in Love and Unity.

“If we know that God said love one another as you love yourselves. This can also apply among ourselves. If we truly love one another, there would be no need to kill ourselves” he said.

The Youth Caravan brought about youth leaders, Women Leaders and Civil Society groups across Jonglei State with the aim to brainstorm about root causes of Conflict and Youth efforts in conflict mitigation in the Country.

The Peace initiative was organized by Search for Common Ground in Partnership with Jonglei State women Association.
