Gurei City FC were crowned Group B champions in the South Sudan National Cup after a 1–1 draw with Nguluwa FC of Mundri at the Buluk Training Ground.
The match drew a lively crowd and proved highly competitive, with both sides battling for the top spot. Gurei City struck first, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to take the lead.
Nguluwa responded with determination, equalizing later in the game to level the score. Despite late efforts from both teams, the contest ended in a draw.
With the stalemate leaving the group undecided, the match proceeded to penalties. Gurei City converted four spot-kicks to secure victory and claim the Group B crown in the ongoing national tournament.
A member of the Gurei City technical team praised the squad’s discipline and resilience throughout the group stage. “We are proud of the players for their effort and commitment. Finishing top of the group shows the hard work the team has put into the competition,” the official said.
The win sends Gurei City into the next stage of the South Sudan National Cup, where they will face the Group A champions currently competing in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State. Nguluwa FC, who impressed during the group stage, now await results from other fixtures to determine if they can advance or must wait until next year’s competition.
