CTSAMVM holds 54th Meeting, Review peace implementation

The Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) convened its 54th meeting to assess general security situation and progress in the implementation of the peace agreement in South Sudan.

During the meeting, the members CTSAMVM conducted a comprehensive analysis of the permanent ceasefire agreement, noting areas of compliance and reported violations in different parts of the country.

In his opening Statement Maj Gen Teshome Anagawe Ayana Chairperson of CTSAMVM reiterated the importance of all parties to adhered to the ceasefire provisions to prevent further escalation of violence.

The Chairperson also echoed serious concern over escalating insecurity in parts of South Sudan during its 54th meeting.

“The security situation has not improved since we met in February, the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) 2018 remains under serious threat” he said.

He highlighted continued violence in several parties of Western Equatoria State, particularly in Nagero County, Mundri East County, and Tambura County.

The mechanism noted that recurring clashes, revenge killings, and displacement of civilians remain a major concern in these areas.

CTSAMVM condemned the recent killings in Ruweng Administrative Area, describing them as serious violations of the peace agreement and calling for immediate investigations and accountability for those responsible.

“The 1st March attack in Abiemnhom, Ruweng Administrative Area, where many civilians lost their lives in a coordinated early morning assault that led to the massive killing of civilian, destruction of homes, and the displacement of thousands is a continued violation of the ongoing peace process in the country” he said.

The meeting also discussed the deteriorating security situation in Morobo County, where cross-border tensions and armed activities have reportedly contributed to instability, affecting livelihoods and humanitarian access.

He further condemned the recent killings reported in Ruweng Administrative Area, describing them as violations of the peace agreement. The body urged all parties to exercise restraint and adhere fully to the terms of the ceasefire.

The mechanism emphasized the need for immediate intervention by the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity to protect civilians and restore order in the affected regions. It also called on local leaders and communities to engage in dialogue and reconciliation efforts to end cycles of violence.

CTSAMVM reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring and reporting on compliance with the peace agreement and urged all stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring lasting peace and stability across South Sudan.
