The Ministry of Health has reinforced its strategic partnership with China following a high-level meeting between Health Minister Luke Thompson and the Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Mark Qiang.
The meeting underscored a shared vision, building a resilient, inclusive, and modern healthcare system capable of meeting the needs of all citizens, especially those in underserved rural communities.
Minister Thompson positioned the collaboration as a cornerstone of national development, emphasizing that strong international partnerships are critical to overcoming systemic challenges.
He highlighted ongoing efforts by the government to expand healthcare infrastructure, improve supply chains, and invest in the training of medical professionals.
“This partnership reflects our commitment to delivering better health outcomes for our people,” The Minister noted, pointing to reforms aimed at strengthening service delivery across South Sudan.
The Chinese Ambassador, in turn, reaffirmed China’s long-standing commitment to supporting South Sudan’s development priorities.
He emphasized China’s role as a reliable partner, citing ongoing contributions including hospital
construction, provision of advanced medical equipment, and deployment of specialized medical teams.
“Our cooperation in the health sector is built on mutual respect and tangible results,” the Ambassador stated, highlighting the positive impact of existing initiatives on local communities.
Importantly, both leaders signaled a shift from short-term support to longterm, sustainable development.
Discussions focused on scaling up successful projects, introducing innovative healthcare solutions, and strengthening systems for disease prevention and emergency response.
The partnership also aims to deepen capacity building, equipping South Sudanese health professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to lead the sector into the future.
This renewed collaboration sends a strong message, that through strategic alliances and shared commitment, lasting improvements in healthcare are within reach. For the people of South Sudan, it represents not just investment in infrastructure, but investment in healthier, more resilient communities.
