The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) has received 37 containers of rice as part of the first consignment of food assistance from the People’s Republic of China.
Deputy Chairperson Makuc Ngong confirmed the reception while visiting the consignment site in Juba on Tuesday.
He stated that the food support aims to assist vulnerable communities throughout South Sudan.
“This consignment of 37 containers of rice will support those in need, especially IDPs, returnees, and other vulnerable groups,” he said.
Makuc expressed appreciation to the government and people of China for their continued humanitarian support to South Sudan.
He noted that many displaced persons and returnees remain in urgent need of assistance due to the effects of conflict.
The food distribution is expected to be officially launched on Wednesday by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Albino Akol Atak, alongside the chairperson of RRC, Stephen Kueth Gach.
