The vice president for the economic cluster, James Wani Igga, on Wednesday met with a delegation from the South Sudan National Youth Union, Uganda Chapter, at the SPLM House.

The delegation, headed by Youth Union Coordinator Saviour Tombe, held discussions with the vice president focusing on youth engagement, electoral preparedness, and the role of the diaspora in shaping the country’s democratic future.

During the meeting, the youth leader, Savior Tombe, briefed Igga on the Union’s ongoing initiatives in Uganda, particularly efforts aimed at uniting South Sudanese youth and preparing them for participation in the anticipated national elections.

Tombe emphasised the strategy to carry out widespread mobilisation of South Sudanese living in Uganda to ensure inclusivity in the electoral process.

Igga welcomed the initiative and reiterated the government’s commitment to the full implementation of the peace agreement, underscoring the importance of youth as critical stakeholders in sustaining peace and stability, calling on them to support national efforts geared toward reconciliation and unity.

“The government remains steadfast in its pursuit of lasting peace, and the youth must play a leading role in advancing this agenda,” Igga stated, encouraging the delegation to continue advocating for peaceful coexistence among South Sudanese communities both at home and abroad Igga stated.

Saviour Tombe, speaking on behalf of the delegation, called for increased government support for youth-led programs in Uganda, noting that many South Sudanese youths in the diaspora face challenges that require institutional backing, particularly in areas of education, civic awareness, and community development.

“Our Union is dedicated to promoting unity, peace, and education among South Sudanese in Uganda,” Tombe said. “With greater support, we can expand our impact and ensure that young people remain connected to national development efforts.”

He further highlighted that the union’s activities go beyond political mobilisation, extending into social cohesion and empowerment initiatives designed to prepare youth for meaningful contributions to the country’s future.

The meeting reflects ongoing engagement between the government and youth organisations as South Sudan moves toward a crucial electoral period.

The South Sudan National Youth Union Uganda Chapter continues to play a significant role in fostering unity and encouraging active participation among South Sudanese youth, reinforcing their position as key partners in the country’s journey toward peace and democratic governance.
