President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called for unity of command, strict discipline, and seamless coordination across all security institutions in the country.
The president made the remarks while presiding over the official handover ceremony at the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) headquarters in Bilpam on Thursday. The ceremony marked the leadership transition from General Dr. Paul Nang Majok to the new Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), General Santino Deng Wol.
“Addressing the leadership and ranks, President Kiir called for unity of command, discipline, and close coordination across all security institutions,” reads part of a statement shared by the Presidential Press Unit.
The president emphasised that a professional and unified military is essential for safeguarding peace, national stability, and unity. He urged officers at all levels to serve with integrity, commitment, and a clear sense of duty to the citizens of South Sudan.
Minister of Defense and Veterans Affairs, General Chol Thon Balok, pledged his full support to the new leadership. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening the nation’s military capabilities.
In his inaugural remarks, General Santino Deng Wol expressed gratitude for the president’s trust. He committed to enhancing operational readiness, improving professionalism within the ranks, and increasing the SSPDF’s overall effectiveness.
The outgoing Chief of Defense Forces, General Dr. Paul Nang Majok, thanked the President for the opportunity to serve and promised his continued support to ensure a smooth transition of power.
The ceremony concluded with a resounding message: a disciplined and professional military remains the backbone of lasting peace and security in South Sudan.
