Authorities in Yei River County are preparing to officially launch the rehabilitation of the Lomuku 1 Kanjoro Newsite Bridge on Thursday, in a move aimed at improving transportation, boosting local trade, and enhancing access to key production areas.
The launch ceremony is being jointly organised by the Lomuku 1 Newsite Road community and local government authorities as part of efforts to strengthen community participation in development initiatives.
During a preparatory meeting, the commissioner of Yei River County called on the bridge rehabilitation committee and the Department of Physical Infrastructure, Roads, and Bridges to ensure effective use of available resources for the successful implementation of the project.
The commissioner emphasised that infrastructure development remains a key priority for improving service delivery and strengthening economic activities across the county.
The director of physical infrastructure, roads, and bridges, Hillary Lugala Godo, commended both the county leadership and the Lomuku community committee for their cooperation and commitment ahead of the official launch scheduled for Thursday.
Emeritus Bishop Hillary Adeba also praised the joint efforts between the local government and the community, describing the rehabilitation of the bridge as an important step toward improving mobility and supporting development initiatives in the area.
He noted that community participation remains essential in advancing development projects despite ongoing economic challenges facing the country.
The Paramount Chief of Yei welcomed the initiative, saying the project reflects unity, cooperation, and shared responsibility among the people of Yei River County.
He further stated that local leaders would mobilise communities across the county to participate in the official launch and support the rehabilitation process.
Johnson Poru, chairperson of the Bridge Rehabilitation Committee, said the project will have a significant impact on residents once completed.
“Once completed, this bridge will serve as an important access point to production areas, improve service delivery, revitalise local markets, and enhance the safety of community members,” Poru said.
“Together, we are building more than just a bridge — we are building a pathway to prosperity,” he added.
The rehabilitation of the Lomuku 1 Kanjoro Newsite Bridge is expected to ease transportation challenges, strengthen economic connectivity, and support both social and commercial activities within Yei River County.
