South Sudanese in Malaysia appeal for inclusion in international diplomats conferences

By Jurugo Emmanuel Ogasto

South Sudanese living in Malaysia have appealed to the International Diplomats organisation to include more South Sudanese participants in future global conferences and leadership programs.

The appeal was made following the successful conclusion of the 5th International Diplomats Conference held in Kuala Lumpur from June 13–16, 2026. The international gathering brought together delegates from more than 30 countries, including representatives from East African nations such as Uganda and Kenya.

The conference was held under the theme: “Climate Education and Green Technology Governance for Sustainability.”

Speaking to No. 1 Citizen Newspaper, Isaac Gatuot described the event as highly important, particularly for countries like South Sudan that continue to face the devastating effects of climate change.

He emphasised that climate education and sustainable environmental governance are critical to the future of vulnerable nations and urged organisers to ensure that South Sudanese youth and professionals are more actively represented at future conferences.

Ugandan delegate Ogga Sunday also addressed participants on behalf of the Ugandan delegation, highlighting the importance of regional cooperation in addressing climate and sustainability challenges affecting African countries.

The conference was organised by the International Diplomats organisation, a registered global youth-led platform that brings together aspiring leaders, diplomats, and change-makers to engage in dialogue, cultural exchange, and international cooperation.

According to the organisation, its conferences, ambassador programs, and leadership initiatives are designed to empower youth voices, build global networks, and create opportunities for practical diplomatic engagement.

In his opening statement, Director General Salman Qazi said the conference aimed to cultivate diplomatic leadership among young people and prepare them to address emerging global challenges.

“Diplomacy is not reserved for the few; it is a skill, a mindset, and a responsibility that must be cultivated among the youth of today to shape the leadership of tomorrow,” Qazi stated.

He added that the conference was more than a gathering, describing it as a platform for emerging leaders to exchange ideas, negotiate solutions, and strengthen international cooperation.

The president of International Diplomats, Ahmath Sadique, welcomed delegates to Kuala Lumpur and encouraged participants to engage actively and lead with integrity.

“This conference unites emerging leaders committed to dialogue, cooperation, and principled diplomacy,” Sadique said.

Organisers explained that the conference theme was selected in response to the growing global climate crisis, which continues to threaten economies, ecosystems, food security, public health, and geopolitical stability worldwide.

Discussions focused on three major pillars: climate education, green technology, and governance frameworks. Topics included renewable energy systems, sustainable urban development, climate-smart agriculture, ethical technology deployment, international cooperation, and environmental accountability.

The conference also highlighted the importance of aligning climate action with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly goals related to quality education, clean energy, sustainable cities, responsible consumption, climate action, and global partnerships.

Among the expected outcomes of the conference were the development of climate-informed youth diplomats, policy recommendations on ethical green technology governance, and stronger international partnerships for sustainable innovation.

Organisers announced that the next International Diplomats Conference will be held later this year in Sri Lanka, where delegates are expected to continue discussions on sustainability, diplomacy, and global cooperation.
