Kanjoro bridge project gains momentum as community pledge support

By James Innocent

The commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Henry Malimbo, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the construction of the Kanjoro Bridge.

He described the project as a key infrastructure investment that will improve transportation, boost trade, and enhance service delivery across the county.

Speaking during an inspection and stakeholder engagement meeting at his office, Commissioner Malimbo appealed to the bridge construction committee to expedite the transportation of building materials, noting that the county authorities are working to mobilise resources and fulfill the budgetary commitments required for the project’s completion.

“The county administration remains committed to supporting the construction of Kanjoro Bridge because it is a vital project that will benefit our communities and contribute to the county’s development,” he said.

Community leaders, church representatives, and county officials who attended the meeting reiterated their support for the bridge project, describing it as a significant step toward improving infrastructure and enhancing economic activities in Yei River County.

Senior citizen Ale Satimon commended the county leadership for backing the bridge construction, saying the initiative demonstrates the administration’s commitment to development and effective public service delivery.

Emeritus Bishop Hillary Adeba of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan (ECSS) also praised the progress made under the current county administration.

He said infrastructure projects such as the Kanjoro Bridge are contributing to positive change in the county and urged all stakeholders to ensure the bridge is constructed to a permanent and durable standard.

The bridge construction committee was tasked with following up on pledges made by individuals, organisations, and well-wishers during the project’s launch.

Committee Chairperson Johnson Poru said efforts are underway to secure the promised contributions and assured the county authorities that the procurement of some construction materials would begin soon.

He added that while the committee will continue mobilising available resources, the county government is expected to shoulder the larger share of the project’s financial requirements.

Yei River County Executive Director John Hillary Konga reiterated the county administration’s commitment to the project, stating that available resources would be allocated to support the bridge’s construction.

“It is the responsibility of the county government to provide services and infrastructure that benefit the people,” Konga said.

Once completed, the Kanjoro Bridge is expected to improve transportation, facilitate trade, and strengthen connectivity among communities across Yei River County.
